The Union Cabinet has authorized the Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme (CMPS), allocating a budgetary commitment of Rs.10,000 crore through FY 2039-40, designed to cultivate a globally competitive container manufacturing sector in India, mitigate import reliance, and bolster supply-chain resilience. This scheme is intended to facilitate the establishment of new manufacturing facilities and the augmentation of existing container manufacturing operations. The Container Manufacturing Scheme was initially detailed in the Union Budget 2026–27. The initiative is projected to elevate annual domestic container manufacturing capacity by approximately ten-fold, reaching up to 7.5 lakh TEUs.
