The key equity barometers traded with minor losses in early trade. Nifty opened at 22599 and hit a high of 22599 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Realty, Nifty Metal and Nifty Auto shares declined, while Nifty IT shares advanced.
At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, inched down 292.41 points or 0.40% to 72,346.29. The Nifty 50 index posted modest losses of 86.25 points or 0.38% to 22,516.80.
The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index lost 0.66% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged lower by 0.70%.
The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 1385 shares advanced and 2388 shares fell. A total of 229 shares were unchanged.
Nifty Realty index slipped 1.28%. The index has lost 7.83% in last one month and moved lower by 7.75% over last one year. Phoenix Mills, easing 1.61%, led the losers followed by Godrej Propert., slipping 1.37% and Lodha Developers, down 1.34%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 9 are reporting loss today.
Nifty Metal index fell 1.10%. The index has retreated 6.43% in last one month and surged 21.17% over last one year. Adani Enterp., losing 2.37%, led the losers followed by Natl. Aluminium, edging lower 1.20% and NMDC, edging lower 1.19%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 14 are reporting loss today.
Nifty IT index rose 1.65% to 28216. The index has shed 7.46% in last one month and registered heavy losses of 20.03% over last one year. HCL Technologies, gaining 1.99%, led the gainers followed by TCS, inching higher 1.70% and Tech Mahindra, adding 1.47%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today.
In NIFTY500, Firstsour.Solu. is the top gainer today, registering sharp gains of 6.09% to Rs 275.15. The counter is sharply down 20.58% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 120923.40 in last five sessions compared to 138662.33 over last one month.
Asian markets posted steep losses on Thursday. China’s Shanghai composite is down 0.27%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading lower by 0.96%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is firmly lower by 1.20%.
