The key equity barometers traded with marginal gains in early trade. Nifty opened at 22603 and hit a high of 22628 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Metal and Nifty Chemicals shares rose, while Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty IT shares retreated.
At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, inched up 186.19 points or 0.26% to 72,568.66. The Nifty 50 index posted modest gains of 44.35 points or 0.20% to 22,600.10.
The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.58% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved higher by 0.61%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2622 shares advanced and 1175 shares fell. A total of 217 shares were unchanged.
Nifty Private Bank index edged higher by 0.80% to 26932. The index has eased by 3.70% in last one month and lost 2.81% over last one year. Kotak Mah. Bank, edging up 3.39%, led the gainers followed by IndusInd Bank, inching higher 1.45% and Axis Bank, adding 1.27%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 4 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Metal index posted modest gains of 0.72% to 12588. The index has drifted lower by 4.98% in last one month and registered sharp gains of 22.70% over last one year. Vedanta, up 3.22%, led the gainers followed by Lloyds Metals, gaining 2.90% and APL Apollo Tubes, edging up 1.65%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 14 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Healthcare Index index moved lower by 0.45%. The index has posted modest losses of 3.55% in last one month and gained 10.11% over last one year. Apollo Hospitals, losing 2.40%, led the losers followed by Max Healthcare, down 2.20% and Dr Reddy's Labs, easing 0.75%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 14 are reporting loss today.
In NIFTY500, Trent is the top gainer today, spiking 10% to Rs 2832.50. The counter has lost 18.99% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 94813.80 in last five sessions compared to 87995.21 over last one month.
Asian markets climbed on Tuesday. China’s Shanghai composite is slightly higher by 0.31%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is higher by 0.69%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading higher by 0.51%.
