Reserve Bank of India’s latest monthly bulletin indicated that high-frequency indicators demonstrated resilience in August. E-way bill generation increased on a sequential basis. Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue sustained double-digit expansion, fueled by robust import-related receipts, alongside continued strength in domestic collections. Petrol consumption registered an uptick compared to the prior year, supported by increased road travel amid below normal rainfall in August, while accelerated diesel consumption growth was underpinned by greater utilization of generators and related equipment. Aggregate petroleum consumption, nevertheless, decreased due to a decline in liquified petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha and petroleum coke consumption. Electricity demand strengthened, driven by augmented cooling and irrigation needs. Persistent double-digit growth in toll collection volumes signaled ongoing momentum in road transportation and logistics activity. Digital payments continued to exhibit robust expansion in both volume and value.
