Rohit Jain, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, affirmed that India’s banking sector’s technological evolution has yielded significant advancements, characterized by institutional innovations reshaping financial service delivery. The implementation of Core Banking Solutions represented a pivotal juncture, facilitating a transition for banks away from branch-dependent operations and affording customers access to their accounts and services across various locations. This established the technological bedrock for internet banking, mobile banking, and the subsequent proliferation of digital financial services. Initiatives such as UPI, Aadhar-based e-KYC, Video-based Customer Identification Process, ULI, among others, provide valuable insights. He observed that robust technology governance involves not the aspiration to eradicate all potential failures, but rather the development of institutional capabilities to proactively identify vulnerabilities, facilitate informed decision-making, mitigate the impact of disruptions, safeguard customers, and restore essential services. This necessitates a synthesis of rigorous oversight, proficient personnel, resilient infrastructure, effective controls, and a corporate culture where technology risk is acknowledged as a collective accountability.
