The key equity barometers traded with considerable losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23282-23190. Nifty Media, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Realty shares advanced, while Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Financial Services shares declined.
NIFTY posted modest gains of 0.50% in last session and registered heavy losses of 3.19% over last one-week.
At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, shed 784.99 points or 1.05% to 74,043.26. The Nifty 50 index retreated 240.95 points or 1.03% to 23,205.85.
The broader market surpassed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 1.20% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged lower by 0.63%.
The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 1761 shares rose and 3101 shares fell. A total of 240 shares were unchanged.
Nifty Media index posted modest gains of 0.30% to 1572. The index has inched lower by 2.27% in last one month and edged lower by 3.07% over last one year. Sun TV Network, rising 5.36%, led the gainers followed by Zee Entertainmen, up 1.82% and Nazara Technolo., adding 1.59%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 3 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Pharma index inched up 0.29% to 27230. The index has moved higher by 3.09% in last one month and recorded robust gains of 21.76% over last one year. Cipla, edging up 2.14%, led the gainers followed by Ipca Labs., gaining 1.88% and Mankind Pharma, inching higher 1.31%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 11 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Private Bank index slipped 1.91%. The index has slipped by 0.50% in last one month and added 1.13% over last one year. Axis Bank, down 4.63%, led the losers followed by IDFC First Bank, losing 3.80% and IndusInd Bank, easing 3.71%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.
Asian markets traded slightly lower on Thursday. China’s Shanghai composite is trading lower by 1.06%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is down 0.43%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading higher by 0.76%.
In Europe, German DAX drifted lower 0.12%, UK’s FTSE 100 eased 0.03% and French CAC edged lower 0.39%.
In Commodities, MCX Crude oil ticked up 1.18% to trade at Rs 8,802 per barrel.
