Equities trade with small gains

The key equity barometers traded with marginal gains in early trade. Nifty opened at 23454 and hit a high of 23489 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Realty, Nifty Chemicals and Nifty Metal shares rose, while Nifty IT and Nifty Healthcare Index shares fell.


At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, posted modest gains of 108.16 points or 0.14% to 74,967.15. The Nifty 50 index inched up 33.45 points or 0.14% to 23,447.75.


The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.27% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged higher by 0.45%.


The market breadth was favorable. On the BSE, 2666 shares advanced and 1144 shares declined. A total of 230 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Realty index added 0.97% to 862. The index has declined 6.34% in last one month and inched down 7.35% over last one year. Sobha, edging up 1.86%, led the gainers followed by DLF, up 1.33% and Godrej Propert., inching higher 1.15%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today.


Nifty Chemicals index moved higher by 0.68% to 29506. The index has posted modest losses of 2.54% in last one month and inched up 0.42% over last one year. Linde India, gaining 2.14%, led the gainers followed by P I Industries, adding 1.80% and Navin Fluo.Intl., inching higher 1.72%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 16 are reporting gains today.


Nifty IT index edged lower by 0.96%. The index has lost 5.57% in last one month and plunged 18.79% over last one year. LTM, down 3.97%, led the losers followed by HCL Technologies, slipping 2.26% and Infosys, edging lower 1.10%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 9 are reporting loss today.


In NIFTY500, C.E. Info System is the top gainer today, posting strong gains of 7.49% to Rs 966.75. The counter is sharply down 44.92% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 7367.20 in last five sessions compared to 13578.90 over last one month.


Asian markets soared on Tuesday. China’s Shanghai composite is slightly higher by 0.22%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is up 0.24%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is significantly higher by 1.38%.
