India WPI inflation surges

India’s wholesale price-based inflation remained at a significant level. The index advanced 9.92% year-over-year in August, in contrast to 9.78% in July, driven by increases in the costs of food, manufactured goods, and fuel and power, according to data released on Monday. Food inflation increased to 7.05% in August, compared to 6.65% in July. Inflation in manufactured items reached a series high of 8.37%, surpassing 8.29% in July. Wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation in the fuel and power segment was approximately 23% year-over-year.
