EIA projects modest growth in India's oil consumption next year

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) indicated in its most recent monthly assessment that India’s liquid fuels consumption is projected to advance by approximately 0.34 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2027 relative to the prior year. The agency anticipates India’s consumption will reach 5.62 million barrels per day (mbpd) in 2026 and 5.96 mbpd in 2027. This year’s consumption reflects a slight decrease from 5.67 mbpd in 2025. India’s liquid fuel production is forecast at 0.99 mbpd in 2026 and is expected to increase to 1.02 mbpd the following year.
