NIFTY stays slightly lower after falling in the previous session

The key equity barometers traded with pronounced losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23759-23638. Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare Index shares rose, while Nifty IT and Nifty Realty shares retreated.


NIFTY lost 1.03% in last session and tumbled 3.22% over last one-week.


At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 469.78 points or 0.62% to 75,663.03. The Nifty 50 index declined 253.35 points or 1.06% to 23,644.35.


The broader market surpassed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched up 0.12% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved higher by 0.09%.


The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 2293 shares advanced and 2601 shares fell. A total of 231 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Pharma index advanced 1.60% to 26903. The index has posted modest gains of 0.50% in last one month and spiked 22% over last one year. Sai Life, edging up 4.72%, led the gainers followed by Piramal Pharma, adding 3.82% and Laurus Labs, gaining 3.69%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 14 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Healthcare Index index rallied 1.39% to 16637. The index has slipped by 1.13% in last one month and climbed 14.49% over last one year. Piramal Pharma, up 3.82%, led the gainers followed by Laurus Labs, inching higher 3.69% and Divi's Lab., gaining 2.36%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 13 are reporting gains today.


Nifty IT index fell 2.65%. The index has drifted lower by 4.92% in last one month and declined 12.58% over last one year. Oracle Fin.Serv., easing 0.94%, led the losers followed by Mphasis, edging lower 0.93% and Wipro, losing 0.84%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.


Asian markets fell on Tuesday. China’s Shanghai composite is marginally higher by 0.20%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is modestly lower by 0.27%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is sharply lower by 1.70%.


In Europe, German DAX eased 0.33%, UK’s FTSE 100 edged lower 0.08% and French CAC inched higher 0.33%.


In Commodities, MCX Crude oil ticked up 1.27% to trade at Rs 8,764 per barrel. MCX Copper edged higher by 0.98% to trade at Rs 1,386.30 per kg.
