Shirish Chandra Murmu, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, emphasized the importance of a strong and diverse credit system for India's rapidly changing financial sector, influenced by technology and new customer needs. He highlighted that Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) and Housing Finance Companies (HFCs) are now key players, providing credit to underserved people and promoting innovative lending. Murmu pointed out that many Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) still face unmet credit needs, indicating a significant opportunity for growth. He also noted that credit gaps exist in other areas as well, and technology could help address these issues, supported by India's economic growth, urbanization, and digital advancements.
