NIFTY stays slightly lower after falling in the previous session

The key equity barometers traded with minor losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 24129-23994. Nifty Media, Nifty Metal and Nifty IT shares declined, while Nifty Private Bank shares advanced.


NIFTY slipped by 0.44% in last session and moved higher by 0.79% over last one-week.


At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 284.33 points or 0.37% to 76,980.18. The Nifty 50 index moved lower by 111.40 points or 0.46% to 24,064.25.


The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest losses of 0.44% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged lower by 0.41%.


The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1951 shares advanced and 2954 shares fell. A total of 292 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Media index retreated 2.76%. The index has inched higher by 2.84% in last one month and edged lower by 0.21% over last one year. Zee Entertainmen, moving lower 7.78%, led the losers followed by Netwrk.18 Media, edging lower 3.84% and Sun TV Network, slipping 2.21%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.


Nifty Metal index declined 1.94%. The index has climbed 9.07% in last one month and soared 46.85% over last one year. Hindustan Zinc, easing 4.29%, led the losers followed by Natl. Aluminium, down 3.59% and Vedanta, losing 3.24%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 13 are reporting loss today.


Nifty Private Bank index edged higher by 0.12% to 27769. The index has edged up 1.67% in last one month and moved higher by 6.38% over last one year. Federal Bank, up 0.49%, led the gainers followed by IDFC First Bank, edging up 0.48% and ICICI Bank, inching higher 0.35%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 4 are reporting gains today.


Asian markets edged higher on Monday. China’s Shanghai composite is higher by 0.75%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is marginally lower by 0.28%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is modestly lower by 0.14%.


In Europe, German DAX drifted lower 0.20%, UK’s FTSE 100 posted modest gains of 0.29% and French CAC inched higher 0.98%.


In Commodities, MCX Gold moved down 0.99% to trade at Rs 1,56,332 per 10 grams. MCX Crude oil surged 2.52% to trade at Rs 7,983 per barrel.
