Local stock markets are expected to begin on a subdued note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures have edged up 0.20 points, hinting at a positive opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market edged higher in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 slightly higher.The BSE Sensex has inched higher 1.13% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has edged up 2.07% over the same period. In Asia today, sentiment was slightly weaker. China’s SSE Composite Index slipped 0.07% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 eased 0.66%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged lower 0.60%. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 922 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,571 crore in the Indian equity market on 3 August 2026, provisional data showed. Overnight on Wall Street, stocks moved higher across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished higher by 693.38 points, or 1.32%, and closed at 53199.41. The S&P 500 inched higher 1.47% to end at 7620.97, and the NASDAQ Composite posted modest gains of 2.13% to 25935.03. Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex ended slightly higher 544.39 points or 0.70% to 78639.03. The Nifty 50 index moved higher by 390.70 points or 1.60% to 24774.30. Grasim Industries Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, rising slightly by 5.13% to Rs 3260. The stock has moved higher around 1.43% in last one-week and trades lower 10.47% over last one-month. In sectoral indices, only Nifty IT index edged up yesterday, adding 3.28% on the day.
