Barometers trade with major gains; financial services shares rally

The key equity indices traded with significant gains in the mid- afternoon trade. The Nifty traded above the 25,300 level. Financial Services shares advanced after declining in previous trading session.

At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rallied 592.87 points or 0.72% to 82,622.85. The Nifty 50 index rose 189.30 points or 0.75% to 25,334.75.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index advanced 1.04% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.66%.

The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,418 shares rose and 1,693 shares fell. A total of 154 shares were unchanged.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty Financial Services added 0.91% to 27,071.85. In the previous sessions, the index declined by 0.21%.

ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company (up 8.18%), Bajaj Finance (up 3.67%), Bajaj Finserv (up 2.97%), Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company (up 2.84%), REC (up 2.15%), HDFC Life Insurance Company (up 2.13%), Jio Financial Services (up 1.98%), SBI Cards & Payment Services (up 1.79%), Power Finance Corporation (up 1.67%) and SBI Life Insurance Company (up 1.51%) added.

On the other hand, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company (down 2.19%), Axis Bank (down 0.98%) and Kotak Mahindra Bank (down 0.27%) declined.

Numbers to Track:

The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper was down 0.25% to 6.491 as compared with previous close 6.507.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged higher against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 88.3350 compared with its close of 88.8100 during the previous trading session.

MCX Gold futures for 5 December 2025 settlement added 1.14% to Rs 127,701.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was down 0.28% to 98.78.

The United States 10-year bond yield fell 0.30% to 4.013.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for December 2025 settlement shed 4 cents or 0.06% to $62.35 a barrel.
