The German retail sales declined by 1.3% in February 2023 from January 2023, provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) showed.

The real (price-adjusted) turnover of all retail enterprises in Germany declined by 0.3% in January 2023 as compared with December 2022.

This was reportedly the third straight month of contraction in retail trade, with high inflation and uncertainty continuing to weigh on consumers' moods.

Sales of non-food were down 0.3% while food sales grew 0.2%, media reports stated.

Compared with February 2022, retail trade recorded a 7.1% decrease in turnover in real terms.

As per reports, food sales sank 7.6% and non-food 6.8% during the period under review.
